Appliance classes
Lamps can be subdivided in three classes. Each lamp has a symbol. The higher the class, the better the lamp is protected against electric shocks.
Lamps suffice to the electric demands of class 1, which means functional isolation in all parts plus ground.
Lamps suffice to the electric demands of class 2, which means complete isolation in all parts, no ground. In case of a electric fault there won’t be dangerous voltage on the touchable metal parts.
Lamps suffice to the electric demands of class 3, which means the protection against electric shocks is based upon a supply with extra low security voltage (SELV) and on the fact that no voltages higher than SELV can be aroused.
IP-classification
The IP-code shows if the product is protected against solid particles, dust and liquids.
